Zoetrope strip entitled 'Jack In A Box' by the London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company.

A zoetrope strip is a strip of paper with a sequence of printed drawings representing a scene in motion which sits inside a the drum of a zoetrope. When the drum is rotated, the images provide a loop of continuous motion.

A jack-in-the-box is a children's toy that outwardly consists of a music box with a crank handle. When the handle is turned, the toy plays a melody. After the crank has been turned a sufficient number of times (such as at the end of the melody), the lid pops open and a figure, often a clown or jester, pops out of the box. Some jacks-in-the-box open at random times when cranked, making the startle even more effective.
