Magic lantern slide depciting man eating rats
Hand-painted lantern slide, 3 inches circular, combined lever and rotary slide: man eating rats.
The man eating rats magic lantern slide was extremely popular in the 19th century. There are both rackwork and slipping slide versions which show a man asleep in bed, shen he opens his mouth, presumably to snore, one or more rats would climb in. Many versions of this slide were made by many manufacturers, but the original is credited to English slide painted C Constant.
