Empty glass vial with label, 'MTBVAC ®', a potential candidate for a vaccine for tuberculosis, genetically modified form of the pathogen isolated from humans, developed by genetically modified form of the pathogen isolated from humans, by Biofabri, 2017

MTBVAC is a new tuberculosis (TB) vaccine in clinical trials. This is first and only live attenuated vaccine based on a human isolate of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The hope is that this will be a replacement for the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine. The BCG vaccine is a weakened form of the bacteria that causes TB, and it helps develop immunity against the disease.

This is a genetically engineered vaccine developed by Carlos Martín Montañés from the Department of Microbiology, University of Zaragoza, Spain, and Brigitte Gicquel from the Institut Pasteur, Paris with the Spanish biotechnology company BIOFABRI as an industrial partner.
