Handbill - The Spiritual Railway

Made:
1849

Handbill - The Spiritual Railway, 1849. One page backed on paper, some chipping and small closed tears, stained and marked but the text is clear and complete. In two parallel sections, “The Upward Line” (commencing “The line to Heaven by Christ is made”), 40 lines, 10 verses, and “The Down Line” (“There is a Railway downward laid”), 32 lines, 8 verses. A small image of a train at the top as well as the number “734”. Note at the foot of the poem revealing that the verses are sold for the benefit of tradesmen who are unemployed and destitute as well as “strangers in this part of the country”. On the back of the poem is a newspaper article regarding the suicide of Mr Charles Trafford.
