Photograph showing a Super Emitron camera at an athletics track

Photograph taken during the televising of the Olympic Games athletics from Wembley Stadium in 1948.

More

The camera used is a Super Emitron developed pre-war for outside broadcast and first used to televise the Coronation of King George V in 1937. The cameras had greater sensitivity than the first Emitrons, though by 1948 had been superseded by the CPS Emitron. A mix of these cameras were used during the games between the stadium and Empire Pool. The Super Emitron at the stadium fed directly to the Production Control Room at the new BBC Broadcasting Centre onsite.
