Portrait of Thomas Vickery (1882 – 1945) by unknown artist, possibly Vickery himself, 1936.

Thomas Vickery, a talented, obsessive clockmaker, was born in Bath, but worked at Astley Abbots, Worcestershire. He came to national fame in 1931, through making every part of a highly complicated astronomical longcase clock, including its case. He wished ‘to leave behind something made in the 20th century.’ This portrait may well be his own work also. Signed on the reverse with the artist’s fingerprints.
