Atomic clock, Hewlett Packard caesium beam frequency standard type 5061A, No. 418, 1972. Atomic clock used at the National Physical Laboratory to define the UK’s time scale from 1972-1997. It contributed to the generation of the world’s time, known as Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) by the International Time Bureau (until 1988) and the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (after 1988).
