Behind the scenes photograph from 'A Matter of Life and Death' (Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, 1946). Image shows the construction of the escalator (named Ethel) used in the famous scene where David Niven's character is called up to Heaven but fights to stay on Earth. Caption on back reads: 'Ethel from beneath - it took over eight days to erect her on a studio floor under-pinned to support her eighty-five tons'.
