Microdensitometer, Joyce-Loebl microdensitometer 4, associated with Richard Henderson of the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, made by Joyce, Loebl & Company, Gateshead, c. 1974.
This Joyce-Loebl film scanner, known as a microdensitometer, was used by Richard Henderson and Nigel Unwin at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge between 1977 and 2012 in their reserach on determining the structure of biological molecules. Henderson was awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his role in developing a technique known as cyro-electron microscopy to visualise bio-molecules.
