Model of 4-2-2 locomotive "Stirling Single"

Made:
1880-1900 in London

Circa 1885 Model of Great Northern Railway “Stirling Single” 4-2-2 locomotive and 6 wheel tender. Spirit fired, live steam in makers original patinated paint finish. This model is signed Negretti and Zambra but is built from parts by Henry Wood of Oxford Street, London. Wood made complete models but also catalogued all the parts required to construct for yourself. It is my opinion that it was actually assembled by Negretti & Zambra and not just rebranded because the paint quality & finish is totally different to that on the known original condition surviving Henry Wood examples. Henry Wood Optical Instrument Maker and Model Engineer was the father of Sir Henry Wood founder of the Promenade Concerts.
