RAF Officers cap, worn by a Royal Air Force fighter pilot, Percy ‘Peter’ Ware, during the Second World War. It has specks of paint on it from when Ware wore it while painting around his house after the War. Ware flew the Spitfire RN-D, object no. 1954-659.

Percy 'Peter' Harold Ware was born in London 16 June 1923. He joined the RAF in 1941 at the age of 17. He served in the 72nd and the 130th squadrons, serving mostly in North Africa and Italy. In the 72nd squadron, Ware trained on the Spitfire RN-D which is also in the Science Museum collection (Object no. 1954-659). He brought his family to the Science Museum often when they were growing up, pointing out the Spitfire he trained on and telling them stories about his time in the RAF.
