textile testing equipment, magnifying glass. Small microscope with the inscription 'Germany Maschinenspinne 8121'. Complete with purple velvet lined presentation box; top inscription 'John Nesbitt Ltd, Manchester', interior inscription 'Counting Glass 8121, made in Germany'.
Counting glasses such as this were made to determine the THREAD DENSITY in textiles in the Victorian/Edwardian periods.
