This is a wind-tunnel model of a supersonic aircraft. During the 1950s a number of British aircraft manufacturers undertook design studies for a civil airliner that could fly faster than sound. Many forms of wing were tried until a satisfactory design eventually emerged as the BAC Concorde. This model is of one such study by Handley Page Ltd. and was used at the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough, for testing low-speed handling characteristics.
