Gelatine silver print entitled 'Orphan's Grave at Wainstalls, near Halifax' by Ian Beesley. Produced for the commission `Through the Mill:, The Story of Yorkshire Wool in Photographs'. 1985-1987'.

In contrast, a simple headstone at the remote Wainstall cemetery, in the upper Calder Valley, highlights the 19th century practise of employing parish orphans whose life expectancy was considerably shortened by the harsh conditions found in mills at that time.
