
Gelatine silver print entitled ''Lister's Pride', Lister's Mill, Bradford' by Ian Beesley. Produced for the commission `Through the Mill:, The Story of Yorkshire Wool in Photographs'. 1985-1987'.
This is the chimney of Lister's Mill, Bradford, an enormous worsted and silk manufactory originally with a total floor space of 26 acres. Its owner, Samuel Cunliffe Lister, had prospered as a result of his invention of the first effective woolcombing machine in 1845. The chimney, known as Lister's Pride, is 255 feet (78 feet) high and built in 1873 in the style of an Italian campanile or bell tower.
