This photograph shows two busts of Sir Titus Salt and Sir Isaac Holden on a shelf. Both of these men were important in the Bradford wool industry. Sir Titus Salt was a textile manufacturer, politician, and philanthropist in Bradford. In 1853 he built Salt’s Mill which produced textiles. Between the 1850s-1870s he built the village of Saltaire which housed his mill workers in better conditions than the local slums. Sir Isaac Holden was an inventor and manufacturer who worked in the wool industry in Bradford.
