Wool Scouring, Whiteheads Mill, Bradford

Gelatine silver print entitled 'Wool Scouring, Whiteheads Mill, Bradford' by Ian Beesley. Produced for the commission `Through the Mill:, The Story of Yorkshire Wool in Photographs'.1985-1987'.

By this process the raw wool is washed to remove dirt, natural grease and vegetable impurities. Scouring produces the useful by-product of lanolin which is used in the manufacture of many soaps and cosmetics.
