Yorkshire has a rich carpet making history. Crossley Carpets at Dean Clough Mills, Halifax was one of the largest carpet manufacturers in the world during the nineteenth century. By the second half of the twentieth century the business was in decline due to competition from cheap imports. The mill ceased production and closed in 1982.
