Gelatine silver print entitled 'Mastiles Lane, near Kilnsey' by Ian Beesley. Prodiced for the commission `Through the Mill:, The Story of Yorkshire Wool in Photographs'. 1985-1987'.
The Monks of Fountains established a grange at Kilnsey from which the sheep farms of Malham Moor were managed. They also owned property in Malham village which housed a steward, and they were owners of several houses on the moorland of this photograph, in which three or four shepherds lived. Mastiles Lane was the ‘drove road’ linking Kilnsey with Malham.
