The patient swallows capsule containing the camera which has a wide-angle view allowing nearly 360° coverage of the colon. It takes about 30,000 pictures before passing naturally from the body, which usually occurs before the end of its 10-hour battery life. This is a second-generation model which was introduced to the market in 2009 after the success of the first generation of PillCam introduced to the market in 2001.
