Patient Information Booklet titled 'Your Heart: Heart Failure and Transplantation, Your transplanation personal assistant' published by Astellas Pharma Limted, published July 2010 with annotations by the user
Underdoing a heart transplant is a major operation with a long recovery period. It can be a difficult time, emotionally and physically, for a person, their loved ones and relies on someone else’s loved ones deciding to donate their organs in line with their wishes. Medications will be needed for the rest of a person’s life as well as any lifestyle changes to ensure their body does not reject the donor’s heart. This booklet takes people through the steps on their transplant journey from being placed on the waiting list for a donor heart through to living with a heart transplant.
Multi-disciplinary teams are involved so a person undergoing a transplant will meet nurses specialising in transplants, surgeons, dieticians, psychologists, pharmacists and physiotherapists.
