Heart shaped tin with 'I love Papworth' sticker put together by a heart transplant recipient to give to say thank you to staff at Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust following their heart transplant

After receiving a donor heart, one transplant recipient wanted to say thank you to the varied and large team of staff who had looked after them. Tins like this one were filled with jelly beans and distributed.

Multi-disciplinary teams are involved so a person undergoing a transplant will meet nurses specialising in transplants, surgeons, dieticians, psychologists, pharmacists, and physiotherapists. Many staff get to know their patients well over the months and years that follow when transplant recipients return for regular check-ups.

Known as Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust since 2018, after being given the designation by Queen Elizabeth II, Papworth Hospital is one of six centres in the United Kingdom where heart transplants are carried out.
