Disposable period products have a large environmental impact, and this has become an important topic of conversation. A disposable sanitary pad is around 90% plastic. This means they take a long time to break down in landfill and disposable period products are regularly found during beach cleans in the UK. Reusable period underwear like this offers an alternative which has much less impact on the environment.
However, the high upfront cost of purchasing period underwear and the need to wash them regularly means that access to them is not equal.
