Watkins Electric Music Copicat Tape Delay
Watkins Electric Music Copicat tape delay, c. 1961-62. Built into original blue and cream case (no serial no. visible). Case contains mains lead (UK), mono jack lead, and foot pedal (all fixed connections). Also contains a plastic tube with spare tape loops from 'My Tape Echo'.
Watkins Electric Music was a very important British company in the mid-20th century, being one of the first to make and sell equipment specifically for live, amplified music. The Copicat was significant in the development of the classic rock guitar sound. It was used by many artists, including: Jonny Kidd and the Pirates on Shakin All Over (1960), Scotty Moore, Chet Atkins, Hank Marvin and the Shadows. This is an early example, in good condition for its age, complete in its original case, with additional tape loops (from a later date), and in recent working order. The control knobs have been replaced at some point, probably earlier rather than later in its life, and look like they might be original Watkins knobs.
