Photograph showing demonstration of active pixel sensor

A silver gelatin print of the first demonstration of the use of the active pixel sensor as a technology which could produce a TV image. The image is related to the Active Pixel sensor, made by Peter Noble.

This photograph shows a prototype digital television camera in use in about 1969–1975. A prototype active pixel sensor with 4,000 pixels continually captured an image of the woman sat in front of it, converting the light information into electrical signals that passed along wires before being converted back to light and displayed on a nearby screen.

The photograph was taken by Peter Noble, whose work developing digital image sensors bridged the gap between analogue and digital photography and extended into the field of broadcast television.
