1 pair of ‘Flux Detachable’ period pants, made by Flux Undies, December 2018
This pair of period pants are absorbent underwear able to replace the need for tampons or pads. They are the first period-proof pants in the UK to have detachable sides which allow for easy changing for those with mobility issues. The detachable strap means that users do not have to lift their feet off the ground so they can change without having to completely undress to change underwear.
The founder and managing director of Flux, Paige Fashoni, described her frustration at seeing people with mobility and incontinence issues given nappy-type pants as the only option. She has since sought to design period pants that are completely functional as well as fashionable and comfortable that can be used by anyone with any body type. The brand seeks to include all genders, sizes, abilities, body types and ethnicities.
Reusable period pants also have an extremely relevant link to the environmentally friendly discourse prominent in society today. Disposable products like most popular pads and tampons are not environmentally friendly and often end up in landfill. This object on the other hand can be thrown into the washing machine and reused multiple times.
