'Patientpak' antimicrobial kit, United Kingdom, 2008-2009; kit containing antimicrobial products including sanitising wipes, fabric spray, hand spray, hair and body wash and other products including hair and body wash, soap, soapdish and nailbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste, lip balm, disposable pen and guide to good hygiene.
Launched in 2008, PatientPak was advertised for people going into hospital to protect against Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs) including MRSA. Each of the products were aimed to encourage hand cleanliness or contained formulas, known as Clinell, advertised to kill 99.9% of hospital germs including MRSA.
Sales topped 10,000 in January 2009. Part of the original advertising for PatientPak was controversial as it suggested the pack was "essential to wellbeing" - a sentence that was removed by the Advertising Standards Agency. Experts and reviews in the British Medical Journal were concerned that there were no controlled trials proving that use of PatientPak, would reduce HAIs.
