Caption on verso reads: "The enemy at Halfaya sent an envoy to Major General de Villiers at 8 a.m. on January 17th, asking for terms of surrender. At mid-day near Halfaya Major General de Villiers met an Italian General to receive the unconditional surrender of the Axis garrison. This picture shows: Italian prisoners loading up a truck with their kit. In the foreground is a wounded German prisoner, awaiting transport to a P.O.W. camp."
