Universal Carrier MkII* Armoured Vehicle
The Universal Carrier was a British-designed tracked general-purpose vehicle that carried weapons, supplies, ammunition, infantry and undertook reconnaissance. Produced between 1934 and 1960, 113,000 vehicles were built across all marks and types, making it one of the most-produced military vehicles in history. This example was built by the Ford Motor Company of Canada in 1944, and the markings denote the 49th (West Riding) Division, in which the 10th and 11th Battalions of the Durham Light Infantry served between 1940 and their disbandment in North West Europe in September 1944.
