MyCareLink™ Patient Monitor, model 24952, serial number BTL036000A, for use with the Reveal™ LINQ Insertable Cardiac Monitor (ICM), with packaging and power source made by Medtronic Ltd, made in Malaysia, January 2018
For some people a single ECG or 24 hour monitor may not capture an irregular heart rhythm that causes them to faint. Episodes can be unpredictable and sometimes without symptoms. Fear of an episode can disrupt every-day life and can be emotionally testing. Insertable cardiac monitors, also known as implantable loop devices, continuously loop its memory and has automatic triggers to store irregular heartbeat events. Episodes can also be logged by the user and all data is uploaded for remote monitoring. The wireless device is implanted under the skin during a small operation involving a local anaesthetic.
Medtronic has been a market leader in this area since the launch of their first device in 1998. The MyCareLink™ Patient Monitor is used to collect data. The hand-held device is placed over the recorder and as long as the monitor is plugged in and has a telephone signal, heart rhythm data is automatically collected. Data can be analysed to determine the cause or irregular heartbeats These devices became particularly important during the COVID-19 pandemic when many out-patient appointments were cancelled.
