Hidden Disabilities card with the wording 'I have a hearing loss'

Made:
2020 in United Kingdom

Hidden Disabilities card, with the wording 'I have a hearing loss' and 'I have a hearing loss and may not hear you. Face me, speak clearly but don't shout and if necessary write your message down', designed by Tabbers Limited, part of Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Scheme, 2020

For some people with a hearing impairment or d/Deaf people, the use of face coverings to prevent the spread of COVID-19 has made communicating difficult. Many people have reported receiving abuse or being confronted for appearing not to follow face covering rules. This has impacted some people’s confidence and wellbeing. The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Scheme developed a card which people can choose to carry or wear. The card also gives advice for the reader including to speak clearly and to face the wearer to help with lip reading and visual clues.

Launched at Gatwick airport in 2016, the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a symbol that people can choose to wear indicating that they may need additional assistance, space, or time.
