More
The Racal Store 7D recorder was probably the last of the reel-to-reel tape recorders made in the UK before digitisation and the exit of UK industry from this type of product due to Far Eastern manufacture and technology change. It can also record a DC signal, which most music tape recorders cannot, so was used for data logging in industry and scientific research.
This recorder was used by Mr Peter Bowler as senior lecturer in power electronics in the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology (UMIST) and whose research was funded by the MOD and companies building military equipment - this being during the height of the Cold War.
