Mercury-Atlas rocket model

A model of the NASA Mercury-Atlas rocket developed from an Atlas D missile and adapted to carry a NASA Mercury capsule. Launched from Cape Canaveral during 1960-63 and used to boost the MA-6 Friendship 7 capsule with John Glenn aboard in 1962. Glenn became the first U.S. astronaut to orbit Earth.
