'The lady with the dogs', Christmas card, commissioned by Kimberly Marie Freeman, illustrated by Amy McKay, reflecting on the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020
Each year, Kimberly Marie Freeman commissions a Christmas card reflecting the past year. 2020’s card was her personal reflection of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a dog trainer, she had to move her business online. Her health conditions meant that she also started shielding during the first national lockdown in March. The company of her five Pomeranians has helped her through 2020. One poster in the window says “Wear your mask” with a dog holding a blue face covering. Another references the Black Lives Matter movement after protests across the world. Also illustrated are traditional Christmas decorations and the Hanukkah menorah with its nine candles lit.
This card was donated by a Science Museum member of staff as the Science Museum Group documented the impact of the unfolding pandemic.
