This kit was one of millions sent out as part of the Real-time Assessment of Community Transmission (REACT-1) study conducted in England by Imperial College London and the polling company Ipsos Mori beginning in April 2020. The PCR swab test kits were distributed to more than 100,000 randomly selected individuals each month. Once completed, they were collected from the recipient’s home address by courier and taken for analysis. One of the largest population surveillance studies in the world, this study was a primary means of estimating the nationwide incidence of COVID-19 and had major influence on the UK’s government COVID-19 strategies and related decision making.
