Empty carton of 2 'Billy Boy' lubricated condoms, with instruction leaflet, manufactured by MAPA GmbH, Germany, c1991 (expiry date February 1996)

The purchase of this packet of ‘Billy Boy’ condoms from a German railway station vending machine by the donor in the early 1990s initiated a small personal collection of around 40 condoms and their packaging. The donor was amused by the name and design and was struck by the change in marketing and availability of condoms since his youth when they were sold primarily as contraceptives.
