GIF of a Google Doodle 'Wear a Mask. Save Lives' launched 5 August 2020, showing the individual letters each wearing a mask and moving to be socially distanced from each other.
This animated Google Doodle was produced by Google and launched globally on Google’s Search homepage on 5 August 2020. It was created to help reinforce and normalize mask-wearing and social distancing, both widely accepted and promoted measures to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. It was displayed on Google's homepage internationally, reaching North and South America, much of Europe, Russia, Japan, India, Australia and some African countries.
The anthropomorphised letters spelling Google wear different colour masks and spread across the page to suggest social distancing. Clicking on the animated Doodle led to more information on Google Search about COVID-19 prevention and safety measures as well as additional local community resources. Between spring and summer 2020, many countries around the world made mask wearing (or face-covering wearing) mandatory in a bid to control the spread of the virus. For some countries, it was one of several key measures put in place to enable them to emerge from spring lockdowns.
