Boots 'Personal Protection Kit' comprising 3 x disposable face masks, 1 x bottle of 70% alcohol hand sanitiser, 3 x pairs of gloves and 12 x surface wipes in a resealable box, sold in Boots stores during the COVID-19 pandemic, Crest Medical Ltd, Woolston, UK, 2021
COVID-19 spreads mainly through close contact with infected individuals. This kit shows some of the equipment people use in domestic and healthcare settings to reduce their risk of catching or transmitting the virus. The face coverings, for example, are intended to reduce the volume of infectious respiratory droplets being exhaled into the air.
COVID-19 is significantly less likely to be spread through contaminated surfaces. Nevertheless, handwashing and surface cleaning remain important to prevent transmission of this and other infectious diseases. The other items in this kit are intended to be used alongside precautions like social distancing and adequate ventilation, especially in indoor spaces.
Government slogans such as ‘Hands, Face, Space’ highlighted the importance of personal protective measures in slowing the spread of COVID-19.
