T-shirt made by Nasty Gal
- Made:
- circa 2020 in Bangladesh
Purple t-shirt, size large, made in Bangladesh and retailed online in 2021 by Nasty Gal, a subsidiary of Manchester-based clothing retailer Boohoo. The t-shirt was sold as 'the Basic Facts Oversized Tee'.
This t-shirt was sold by Nasty Gal, an online clothing brand founded in Los Angeles in 2006 and owned by Manchester-based online clothing retailer Boohoo Group PLC. Boohoo have their headquarters on Dale Street in the centre of Manchester and their distribution centre in Burnley, Lancashire.
Boohoo specialises in clothing aimed at fashion-conscious 16–24-year-olds. The company was founded in Manchester in 2006 by Mahmud Kamani and Carol Kane and as of 2023, the Boohoo Group was made up of 13 fashion brands.
This t-shirt was made in Bangladesh, which is the second largest exporter of clothing after China. In 2022, there were 4 million garment workers in the country.
The t-shirt had a very low purchase price, indicative of Boohoo’s stated belief that everyone should be able to buy clothing at a price they can afford. However, the social and environmental impact of low-cost, short life span clothing, often known as 'fast fashion', is significant, and Boohoo’s sustainability plan, launched in 2021, recognises the role the company can play in making changes for the future.
