White banner with black text reading ‘Don’t worry be happy’ with a yellow graphic of a smiley face in a triangle put up in Todmorden, Yorkshire in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic by community benefit society Incredible Edible Todmorden

During the COVID-19 pandemic, restrictions meant that there were limits on meeting people in person for much of 2020 and 2021. While necessary for public health, these rules left many people feeling lonely and disconnected. This sign was put up in Todmorden, Yorkshire by the local community benefit society Incredible Edible to raise people’s spirits and remind them that they were not alone. The sign was put up during the first lockdown and it remained a welcome sight around the town for most of 2020 and 2021. Incredible Edible existed before COVID-19, but, like groups up and down the country, they quickly pivoted their activity to support their local community during the pandemic.
