The most distinctive 'food item' in Stephen Hawing's office is this jar, likely a gift during a visit to China, or from a visitor to Cambridge. It contains traditional compressed, fermented, tea candy. The container itself also appears to be made of this material.
This jar features promimently in photographs of Stephen Hawking's office of at least a decade and could almost be considered part of his office's 'trademark'.
