Laminated A4 poster with a yellow background", "What would the street say if it had captured your thoughts?", by Bromley by Bow Centre, 2020
Many of us spent more time than usual in our local area during the COVID-19 pandemic, and particularly during the first lockdown (March – June 2020). This was the strictest in the UK and significantly limited how much people could leave their homes and for what reasons. This project was a collaboration with the Bromley by Bow Centre, which explored how South Asian women and families, an often underrepresented group, feel in and use their neighbourhoods. Participants were asked ‘what are you thinking when you are on the streets in your local area?’ and these posters show some of the responses.
The Bromley by Bow Centre is a charity and community organisation which provides a wide range of services. This includes three health centres, skill building courses and health and wellbeing activities. It takes a holistic approach and works with local people to design and deliver that are tailored to the local community.
