Included in the kit is a QR code guiding the user to an app that helps them create their own personalised mask. Any image can be uploaded, which can then be printed on to the cotton sheets. By adding filtration fabric inserts, elasticated ear loops and a noseband, the face covering can be word up to four hours. Co-founders of toy company Wow! Stuff in 2006, Dr Graeme Taylor and Richard North, came up with the idea with North’s daughter, Josie, during the first national lockdown in spring 2020. They hoped that this would encourage young people to wear face coverings.

In England face coverings were first advised in May 2020, followed by mandatory wearing in June 2020 on public transport, unless exempt. Face covering rules were widened to most public places by August 2020. On 18 July 2021, face coverings were no longer mandatory, but rules turned on 30 November 2021, as COVID cases began to rise. By April 2022, face coverings were no longer required by law, but many places continue to recommend them including healthcare providers.
