With pubs, restaurants, off-licenses and trade all closed due to the COVID-19 during the first wave of the virus in spring 2020, many distilleries were faced with stopping production. However, like many others, Distell turned their expertise to produce much needed hand sanitiser.

Distell International are a South-African owned company and have sites across the world. In South Africa, 105,000 litres of sanitiser were allocated to government and non-government organisations. In Kenya, 131,000 litres were produced. In Scotland, where this example was produced 1200 litres were givend to care centres, those that needed it most and community groups.
