A5 leaflet for COVID-19 AstraZeneca and Pfizer walk-in vaccinations at Merton Civic Centre Monday 28 June 2021, 4pm to 8pm
Merton Council produced this flyer to encourage local take up of the COVID-19 vaccine. Commencing in late 2020, the UK vaccination programme prioritised the most vulnerable according to age and underlying health conditions. On 18 June 2021 appointments became available to all adults aged 18+. The card, handed to passers-by outside an underground station, informs residents of a walk-in session scheduled at the end of the typical working day.
The 2020 UEFA European Football Championship coincided with restrictions easing in England, leading to fears gathering crowds would spur transmission of the Delta variant, particularly among younger adults who had only recently become eligible to receive their first dose. Hundreds of vaccination centres, park pop-ups, pharmacies and football stadiums offered walk-in slots for Londoners in the lead up to England playing in the semi-final at Wembley on 7 July 2021. Martin Machray, Joint Chief Nurse for the NHS in London, called on fans to get their jabs and “make sure that it’s football coming home this weekend – not coronavirus.”
