On 2 April 2020, ten days after the first national lockdown was announced in the United Kingdom, Origins Sound started selling their charity scarves online.
With gigs and mass gatherings were banned Origins Sound label founder, Armândo Mehrkar and graphic designer, Victoria Boyle, came up with a way to support key workers in London. In just two days, their designs emblazoned with the National Health Service logo and either “social distancing” or “wash your hands” were finalised. These public health measures were at the forefront of ways for individuals to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Two metres was the strictest form of social distancing in England and hand sanitisers stations were added to public places, transport hubs, businesses.
100% of the profits went to buy meals from local restaurants in London for National Health Service (NHS) key workers. This is turn helped struggling restaurants, who were also trying to find a way to survive. By June 2020, they raised £15,00 through sales, donations and online fundraisers, supplying 100 food drops to local hospitals.
Key workers were under enormous pressure to cope with growing numbers of people requiring hospital care for COVID-19, which continued throughout the pandemic. This pressure continues to provide care for people who had their appointments or treatments delayed as many NHS services were re-focused to free up staff to care for people with coronavirus.
