Christmas card produced during COVID-19 pandemic

Made:
2020 in London

Christmas card printed on a folded A4 sheet and handed to customers of Fishers Chemist, South Norwood, including a poem about COVID-19 and photographs of staff, London, 2020

Pharmacies were identified as a key service during national lockdowns, remaining open and often extending their hours to meet additional need. Many people turned to their local pharmacies as a first point of contact for healthcare advice when other options such as hospitals, GPs and dentists were either overwhelmed or closed.

Produced by Fishers Chemist in Croydon, this Christmas card was distributed with 5,000 winter prescriptions. Superintendent Pharmacist Alan Kurtz produces a different card and poem each year to thank customers for their loyalty. The 2020 edition reflects on the pressures faced by the service during the COVID-19 pandemic, from shortages of PPE to conflicting public health advice.

Fishers Chemist was established in 1910 and was the first pharmacy in the country to receive a Customer First Award. Photographs of its 32 staff feature on the back of the card, with information about Christmas opening hours.
