The console was released in 1999 in Europe and discontinued in 2001. It is the last console made by the company SEGA, who previously made consoles such as the SEGA Megadrive and SEGA Saturn. The Dreamcast was one of the first home consoles to include a built-in modular modem, allowing for internet access and online play. As such, there were both keyboard and mouse peripherals avaiable to aid players in both web browsing and online gaming. The Dreamcast saw several pioneering titles launch on the console, including Sonic's first fully 3D platforming game, Sonic Adventure. The console's controller features a d-pad, one analogue stick, traditional buttons face buttons and two triggers alongside two empty slots which allowed for modular perihperals to be attached such a memory card or rumble pack.
