Sheet of stickers with the words '#I had my jab', given out at COVID-19 vaccination clinic at West Ham United Football Club, 2021
In April 2021, Tower Hamlets council and the NHS launched the #Ihadmyjab hashtag, asking members of the public to share when they had their COVID-19 vaccination to encourage other people. Alongside the hashtag, people were asked to post selfies on social media outside vaccination clinics.
100,000 residents in Tower Hamlets received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by 9 May 2021, representing 80% of residents in the first five priority groups. In December 2020, COVID-19 vaccines were first offered to residents in care homes for older adults and their carers, people aged over 80, and frontline health and social care workers. The remaining population is offered the vaccine according to age and existing health conditions that make them more susceptible to COVID-19. Age is one of the biggest factors of dying from COVID-19.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) advise on the priority list and the length between doses (between 3 and twelve weeks).
