Specific COVID-19 vaccine guidance was given to people of childbearing age, those currently pregnant or breast-feeding. When this leaflet was published in February 2021, it was advised that people who were pregnant should not be routinely vaccinated. At the time vaccines were not tested in pregnancy and non-clinical evidence was still required. However, the leaflet does detail that no concerns had been raised by regulatory bodies in the United Kingdom, Europe, United Stated and Canada. For those at high risk of COVID-19 they were encouraged to talk to their healthcare teams. The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) in the United Kingdom advised that those breastfeeding could have the vaccine if they wished.

In March 2021, the advice changed following research by Oxford University, clinical trials on the vaccine during pregnancy and observing symptoms of those pregnant people who have contracted COVID-19. Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) advised that pregnant women should be offered COVID-19 vaccines. NHS England, the National Childbirth Trust and the Royal College of Obstetricians all recommend the same.

After weeks of careful planning and installation, the NHS COVID-19 Vaccination Centre at the Science Museum first welcomed people to receive their COVID-19 vaccine on 11 March 2021. Run by NHS staff and volunteers, the clinic delivered over 122,000 doses to people over the course of a year. People had to pre-book their appointments when invited by the NHS. When the clinic first opened, the museum was closed to visitors but reopened on 19 May 2021 for five days a week.
